The Brigg Blogg......or some of the things we have been up to recently (2017 Season)Tour of North Norfolk- September 2nd/3rd 2017A fabulous weekend organised by Martin and Annie- thank you!Saturday- we based ourselves at Pinewoods in Wells-next-the-Sea. A lovely late summer weekend weather-wise, we started by driving to Fakenham and dancing in the market square, to a small-ish but appreciative audience. We were collecting for a very good cause, the RNLI Wells lifeboat, and the audience were giving generously. Drove back to Wells to get on the Wells to Walsingham Light Railway for a half-hour ride, which was enlivened with useful information from Bob and Lynn regarding farming techniques visible in the passing countryside. Dancing in Walsingham at the 'Black Lion'. We had a very successful 'Grenoside' which included a game member of the clergy in full black vestment and some people with pointy hats and wings on a birthday bash. Returning on the train to Wells, then driving to Blakeney Quay. A successful dance here with lots of tourists about (drawing a slight veil over Horbury Rushcart to the wrong tune for half of it- good segue though, Ade), and the day rounded off with a jolly meal at the local pub. Sunday- a late start at the beach cafe to the most appreciative audience yet, and a chorus of (less appreciative) barking dogs. The wooden decking gave a real spring to the dancing as well as sounding impressive! We then trooped off to catch the small train to the quay, and entertained the crabbers outside the harbour master's office (who, forewarned, wasn't there). The crabbers were oddly reluctant to join in with Grenoside, so we abandoned the attempt- quel fromage. A walk through town to the very fine Globe Hotel- a few dances in the street then a welcome rest and lunch before we all keeled over. Refreshed, we retraced our steps back to the quay for a few more dances (still no harbour master), then back via the train to the beach cafe to end the weekend with a few more dances on the decking. This was rounded off with a light buffet in the cafe- much needed after a long day and 18 dances! (I counted 'em!) A really super weekend with lovely company. Waiting to hear the final amount raised, but I think we did well.... Thanks to all the dancers, musicians, and support crew who went around shaking the buckets! |
